Gridium’s Cloud-based Utility Meter and Bill Data Analytics Software Will Help 15 Million Square Feet of Douglas Emmett Buildings Achieve Energy Use and Cost Savings Goals

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 04, 2015. Gridium Inc., a developer of software tools for commercial real estate and electric utilities, today announced that Douglas Emmett, a real estate investment trust, is deploying Gridium’s cloud-based big data analytics software across its entire portfolio of 58 buildings. Gridium software enables building operators to lower energy use and costs, manage utility bills, and understand the changes that cause bill volatility. Douglas Emmett is expanding its deployment of Gridium software–in use by hundreds of buildings across California–as part of its leadership in sustainable commercial real estate operations, which include significant energy reduction and cost savings goals. Douglas Emmett has used Gridium software since 2012.

“We’re constantly striving to improve our operations,” said Robert Lutes, Director of Engineering Services at Douglas Emmett. “Our efforts to lower energy use and costs and improve tenant comfort take a variety of forms, such as lighting retrofits, upgraded energy management systems, ongoing training for our engineers, and advanced energy and bill data analysis. The last item is where Gridium comes in: their tools help my team identify savings opportunities and quantify the factors that cause monthly utility bills to vary year over year.” Gridium’s software, which doesn’t require any hardware to be installed on site, includes an online web portal accessible from any internet browser and emailed alerts and reports.

“Douglas Emmett is helping set the standard of what it means to be a world-class owner and operator of commercial real estate. While hundreds of buildings use Gridium’s software to turn their smart meter data and utility bills into actionable insights, Douglas Emmett’s comprehensive approach to data-driven sustainability reflects real progress in energy management,” said Tom Arnold, CEO, Gridium. The U.S. EPA has recognized Douglas Emmett as an “ENERGY STAR Leader”, with approximately 90% of its eligible office space achieving an EPA energy efficiency rating in the top 25% of buildings nationwide.
